OUTREACH WE'RE ACTIVE and INVOLVED! |
|
ONGOING OUTREACH MARSHALL COUNTY CARING NEEDLINE Each year parishioners volunteer to help at a local Park from Thanksgiving through Christmas Eve. Help is needed to collect canned goods that are the admission to see the beautiful light display. One weekend just before Christmas, St. Peter's also helps "Santa" and his helpers visit and take pictures with area children who have come to the park. Whenever assistance is needed by M.C. Caring Needline, St. Peter's is always eager to help. Whether it be helping out a family with necessities or packing Easter and Thanksgiving baskets, our volunteers are just a phone call away. JONATHAN CREEK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL - "FAMILY RESOURCE CENTER" The Bishop's Advisory Committee has set aside $1,000.00 per year to help cover needs of the family resouce center. Funds have been provided for the "Brown Bag Lunch Program" as well as assistance to families in need. Parishioners volunteer to help at annual events, mentor children and take part in the yearly reading program. FOOD FUND The first Sunday of each month a special collection is gathered to donate to the food pantry at the Marshall County Caring Needline. DISCRETIONARY FUND The third Sunday of each month another special offering is given by parishioners to put into a discretionary account. These funds are used to assist families and individuals in need throughout the county and surrounding areas. Needs such as utility bills, short term lodging, gas and food are often paid. INSPIRATION HALL is OPEN to the COMMUNITY THE AMERICAN RED CROSS holds several BLOOD DRIVES a year in Inspiration Hall. The location is central to people in the county and offering this donor location results in many much needed units of blood being collected. LOCAL COMMUNITY GROUPS and ORGANIZATIONS have been encouraged to use our facilities. At present a local chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous meets weekly in Inspiration Hall. ![]() SEASONAL and YEARLY PROJECTS COLLECTING EMPTY PILL BOTTLES Empty pill bottles are gathered and packed for shipping to medical clinics in Africa so that medications may be safely dispensed. We encourage individuals and pharmacies to send us your empty bottles. This past year the Marshall County Sheriff's Department graciously gave St. Peter's the many containers collected from a "Safe Drug Drop Program". CANDY DRIVE-"Sending Sweet Treats to Iraq" For several years now, a part-time parishioner and dentist who lives in Cincinnati, has offered to buy candy from families and children, to send overseas to our military personnel in Iraq and Afghanistan. St. Peter's has been the local drop-off center for those who have left-over or an abundance of treats following Halloween.
SR. WARDEN'S CHRISTMAS MISSION PROJECT At the discretion of the Senior Warden a worthwhile cause is selected to participate in as a congregation each Christmas season. This year a "Giving Tree" will be placed in Inspiration Hall. Ornaments will be placed on the tree with names of some residents of a local Nursing Home. Parishioners will choose an ornament to take home and hang on their own Christmas tree. Needed items for each resident will be purchased and on a Sunday just before Christmas, we will gather as a congregation to wrap these gifts while enjoying fellowship and good food at our Church Christmas Party. OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD -"The Power of a Simple Gift" Gift filled shoe boxes are wrapped and delivered to an area drop off center. These boxes will be delivered to children in drastic situations worldwide. Visit www.samaritanspurse.org for more information and to get involved. KENTUCKY SHERIFF'S BOYS and GIRLS RANCH A donation is sent to this local non-profit camp each year. The Sheriff's Ranch provides a weeklong experience to youth from underpriveledged homes and circumstances. YOUTH SUPPORT Several youth involved with our congregation have been supported through scholarship funds to attend All Saints Episcopal Church Camp in Leitchfield Kentucky. A wonderful summer camp experience for all.
