OUTREACH

WE'RE ACTIVE and INVOLVED!

ONGOING OUTREACH

MARSHALL COUNTY CARING NEEDLINE

Each year parishioners volunteer to help at a local Park from Thanksgiving through Christmas Eve.  Help is needed to collect canned goods that are the admission to see the beautiful light display.   One weekend just before Christmas, St. Peter's also helps "Santa" and his helpers visit and take pictures with area children who have come to the park.
Whenever assistance is needed by M.C. Caring Needline, St. Peter's is always eager to help.  Whether it be helping out a family with necessities or packing Easter and Thanksgiving baskets, our volunteers are just a phone call away.

FOOD BANK SUPPORT
St. Peter's is very excited about a new outreach effort that has been started in 2011.  Members of St. Peter's come from many different counties surrounding the lakes area.  It has been our desire to spread our "helping hands" to those less fortunate on a wider scale.  Through a coupon-based web site and the work of our very diligant and enthusiatic senior warden, each quarter non-perishable items are purchased at unbelievable savings.  These grocery items are then delivered to Food Banks in Lyon, Livingston, Caldwell and Trigg counties.

JONATHAN CREEK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL - "FAMILY RESOURCE CENTER"
The Bishop's Advisory Committee has set aside $1,000.00 per year to help cover needs of the family resouce center.  Funds have been provided for the "Brown Bag Lunch Program" as well as assistance to families in need.  Parishioners volunteer to help at annual events, mentor children and take part in the yearly reading program.

FOOD FUND
The first Sunday of each month a special collection is gathered to donate to the food pantry at the Marshall County Caring Needline.

DISCRETIONARY FUND
The third Sunday of each month another special offering is given by parishioners to put into a discretionary account.  These funds are used to assist families and individuals in need throughout the county and surrounding areas.  Needs such as utility bills, short term lodging, gas and food are often paid.

INSPIRATION HALL is OPEN to the COMMUNITY
THE AMERICAN RED CROSS holds several BLOOD DRIVES a year in Inspiration Hall.  The location is central to people in the county and offering this donor location results in many much needed units of blood being collected.
LOCAL COMMUNITY GROUPS and ORGANIZATIONS have been encouraged to use our facilities.  At present a local chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous meets weekly in Inspiration Hall.

SEASONAL and YEARLY PROJECTS

SR. WARDEN'S CHRISTMAS MISSION PROJECT
At the discretion of the Senior Warden a worthwhile cause is selected to participate in as a congregation each Christmas season.  This year we collected items to donate to the "Christmas at Sea" program, co-ordinated by the Seamen's Church Institute in Paducah.  We we gathered for an afternoon of fellowship, delicious chili and to pack boxes with our donations.  These were distributed to hundreds of mariners who were unable to be home for the holidays.

KENTUCKY SHERIFF'S BOYS and GIRLS RANCH
A donation is sent to this local non-profit camp each year.  The Sheriff's Ranch provides a weeklong experience to youth from underpriveledged homes and circumstances.  In a decision to expand our outreach to many Kentucky counties St. Peter's will begin in 2012 to support the camp on a bigger scale.

OUTREACH PROJECT-2012
Ky Sheriffs' Boys & Girls Ranch
St. Peter's will be providing items for the camper's take home "Goody Bags" this summer.  Included will be a bible for each child along with various school supplies, toothbrush/toothpaste, comb/brush, other toiletry items as well as a small toy or stuffed animal, all of which we are in the process of collecting.
At the end of each week an outstanding camper is presented with a bicycle.  St. Peter's is donating 2 bikes for this summer's prizes.
A hands on ministry at the camp will also be implemented.  There are several opportunities in which we can volunteer such as dining room helpers, campfire "Story Tellers"; any area in which we can help to make a difference in even one campers life.
St. Peter's looks forward to this new "Outreach" endeavor!

YOUTH SUPPORT

Several youth involved with our congregation have been supported through scholarship funds to attend All Saints Episcopal Church Camp in Leitchfield Kentucky.  A wonderful summer camp experience for all.
